Today's challenge was broad strokes but I took the opportunity to complete the challenge I missed early on and do my self portrait as well. This really was a challenge for me because A) portraits in general are really difficult, not to mention self portraits and B) I am what you might call someone who works "tight," meaning simply doing broad, impressionistic strokes is very unusual for me. We made it! Today's last challenge is: Self Portrait. While I still don't like being photographed, I think this selfie in my make-up mirror turned out fairly well. Now I think the challenge I'll try next will be to take this photo challenge and turn it into a painting challenge for myself. Today's challenge is: Faceless Self-Portrait. Well, who better to emulate than the master of the faceless self-portrait, Rene Magritte? While I didn't have a way to suspend my apple in mid air, I tried to mimic the look of Magritte's painting The Son of Man, otherwise known as the painting of a man in a bowler hat with a green apple in front of his face. It's an iconic work of art that has even made a prominent place in today's culture by featuring in movies like the 1999

So I found a thirty day photo challenge online which I thought would be fun try. Every day this month I'll be posting a new photo to fulfill the challenge. Since 'Thirty days hath September...' I figured June would be a great time to start. Today is day one and that means it's time to start with a self portrait.
