Fairies and Flowers

Carnation Fairy

Recently a co-worker of mine commissioned me for two drawings for her baby's nursery. She said she had been trying to find the perfect picture of fairies, ones that were pretty but not too child-like. Nothing she'd found had really been exactly what she wanted so she came to me to see if I would be willing to create something for her. The drawings were to have more of a sketch-like quality and be rather simple in terms of color - pale pink and gray to match the baby's room decor.

Dogwood Fairy

I came up with these two sketches, one of a fairy balancing on carnations and another hiding among dogwood branches. While I had originally intended on doing them in watercolor I wound up using colored pencil instead to perfectly match the color samples she had given me. Although fairies aren't really my usual subject matter I'm happy with the way they turned out, but more importantly, so is she!
