Edible Works of Art

I had a lot going on this week so the only work of "art" I was able to finish was this cake for our library's annual Edible Book Contest. It's a fun way for kids to interpret a children's book and, usually, we staff members make our own creations as well to make sure we have enough to serve all the people who come to our last program of the season. The only rules are that they have to be completely edible and related to a book in some way. Of course, we ask entrants to list their ingredients to make sure that anyone consuming them is aware of any possible allergens.

My cake this year ties in with Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days, because I wanted to relate to the Olympics and this year's Summer Reading program (albeit loosely) in some way. For not being a cake decorator, I think it turned out pretty well!
