Art Challenge Day 24: Recreate a Well-known Work of Art

Today's challenge was: 'Recreate a well-known work of art.' I didn't want to do van Gogh's Starry Night - too overdone, nor one of Monet's Water Lilies series - too complicated (ain't nobody got time for that!) so instead I chose Mary Cassatt's Mrs. Duffee Seated on a Striped Sofa, Reading.

As you can see above, my reproduction is on the left, Mary Cassatt's original on the right. Needless to say, I will not have a future career as an art forger. It's a lot harder than you might think to recreate a work of art. It takes getting colors right, brush strokes right, as well as composition. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time to work on this today so there are a lot of things I would like to change and fix if I could. In fact I rather cringe putting my painting up against the original. But I guess that's why it's always best to stick to your own original creations rather than try to reproduce something someone else has done. I will happily return to my own original work tomorrow.
